Wellbeing

Cultivating balance and resilience

At Hydesville Tower School, we prioritise the holistic development and wellbeing of every pupil. Our commitment to nurturing wellbeing goes beyond academic success, extending to creating a supportive and positive environment for personal growth.

We believe that a happy and balanced pupil is more likely to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Teachers successfully encourage children to articulate their feelings so that they learn to understand and manage their emotions.

Nursery

Nurturing growth, building bonds

We take pride in fostering a close-knit and supportive community that centres around the well-being and individuality of each child. Our dedicated nursery practitioners are the heart of this community, with each one overseeing a small group of a maximum of eight children, serving as their key worker. This intentional approach creates a strong connection between the team, children, and parents, facilitating a quick and responsive environment to meet the unique needs of every child.

The Nursery years are crucial in shaping attitudes, trust in authority, and confidence in leadership. We focus on teaching our Nursery children how to become integral parts of the community while retaining their individuality. Our approach emphasises blending communal spirit with personal best, fostering friendships, and encouraging responsibility for one's own feelings and consideration for others.

A set of golden rules becomes second nature to our children, rewarding those who consistently strive to follow our child-friendly guidance. Achieving 10 reward stickers earns children the chance to choose a small piece of treasure, promoting the values of effort, manners, and kindness. This gentle alignment of attitudes reflects the core values of the school: always do your best, whatever the challenge.

Prep School

Prioritising happiness and support

The happiness and well-being of our pupils take precedence above all else. Our approach to pastoral care goes beyond conventional boundaries and is integral to the fabric of our school community. Each member of our dedicated staff actively shoulders the responsibility of ensuring that every pupil feels safe, can express themselves freely, and seeks support and guidance when needed.

In the Prep School, Mrs. Manjit Chand, Deputy Head, leads the pastoral care initiatives. Collaborating with perceptive class teachers, they offer friendly and approachable support, fostering an environment where pupils receive the very best care. The small size of our school allows class teachers to form strong connections with pupils, enabling them to notice changes in behaviour promptly. Our zero-tolerance policy on bullying ensures that unkind or unfriendly attitudes are not tolerated, promoting a culture of openness where children can express their concerns.

Pupils quickly learn to respect each other, embrace diversity, and value uniqueness. Our nurturing environment allows children to be themselves, fostering comfort and enabling them to thrive in all aspects of school life.

Pupils are respectful of the range of faiths within the school community and appreciate that these share many of the same moral values.

Senior School

A commitment to exceptional pastoral care

At Hydesville Tower Senior School, exceptional pastoral care is at the core of our mission. We cultivate a secure and friendly environment where good behaviour and respect for others form the bedrock of a nurturing foundation for learning. Our commitment is to ensure that every pupil feels happy, safe, secure, understood, and valued. The golden rule in the Senior School is simple – treat others as you wish to be treated. This philosophy encourages responsible, thoughtful, and considerate behavior among staff and pupils alike.

Overseeing pastoral care in the Senior School is the Deputy Head, supported by a dedicated Pastoral Team, including a Head of Key Stage 3 and a Head of Key Stage 4. This team collaborates closely with pupils on all pastoral matters, providing support in a friendly and approachable manner to ensure our pupils receive the very best care.

Form Tutors, who interact with pupils daily, play a crucial role in offering support and guidance. Central to academic and social success, Form Tutors maintain regular communication with parents to ensure pupils are content, confident, settled, and thriving in all aspects of school life.

We have robust measures in place to identify and respond to the individual needs of our pupils, fostering a culture of openness. Established procedures allow pupils to express their concerns, ensuring a supportive and responsive environment.
