Senior School

Smooth transitions and nurturing environments

We pride ourselves in having a vibrant and motivating community at Hydesville Tower Senior School, where pupils are actively engaged in a family-like atmosphere. Our commitment to small class sizes and personalised teaching empowers each pupil to reach their full potential. With a proud emphasis on diversity, every pupil has the opportunity to flourish.

Our competitive GCSE results consistently rank among the top in league tables, reflecting our dedication to academic success. Collaborating with the Prep School and our global Cognita family, we offer a holistic educational experience that prepares pupils for a future of achievement and fulfilment.

Curriculum

Exploring academic excellence

We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enriching curriculum that prepares our pupils for success in both academic pursuits and personal development. Our curriculum is designed to nurture critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning.

Hydesville is a great school for small class sizes, therefore teachers know the individual strengths and weaknesses of each child and how to support their learning.

Facilities

Senior School Facilities

The facilities in our Senior School building cater for all subjects, with specialist classrooms such as science laboratories, our well-stocked library (the Hydesville Hive) and the school hall which is a fully functioning theatre and performance area.

Behind the Senior building, we have direct access into the magnificent 35-acre 'Walsall Arboretum' which we use for outdoor learning, cross country, sports days, picnics and more.

Our 500m2 multi-use sports pitch enables during and after school sports training and fixtures.

In addition, we have wireless coverage throughout the school, which means mobile devices can be used in any classroom to support any subject area, allowing for a fully integrated and cross-curricular approach to ICT.

Careers

Post-16 options and career pathways

Year 10 pupils complete one term of 55-minute Careers lessons during their weekly Enrichment lessons. Within these sessions Year 10 pupils learn about the different post 16 options and pathways including Sixth Form and College opportunities.

They also receive support to create their personal statements and curriculum vitaes alongside our Careers Advisor and the Head of English. In addition to this they have the opportunity to explore the world of work, learning about what different professions and jobs entail.

Extra-curricular activities

Enriching the learning experience

Our commitment to fostering holistic development extends to a vibrant array of extracurricular activities. From sports and arts to academic pursuits, our pupils have ample opportunities to explore their interests and talents beyond the classroom.

Whether participating in competitive sports leagues, joining music and drama productions, engaging in coding or robotics clubs, or contributing to community service initiatives, our extracurricular offerings are designed to enrich each pupils' educational journey. Trips are usually linked to a particular subject or they may be organised with an aim of developing particular skills for example Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. We aim to offer one international trip each academic year for Senior school pupils.
