A reading guide for families

At Hydesville, our aim is for pupils to develop the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and to appreciate our rich, varied literary heritage. Early reading skills are a priority at our school, with time and effort being put into ensuring our pupils can read easily, fluently and with good understanding. We promote and foster a love of reading through the use of high quality and diverse texts, exposing pupils to a range of authors in our English sessions and through books available in our school library.

Introducing children to books is one of the most rewarding things we, as parents and teachers, can do. Reading is the basis on which literacy skills are developed and, at Hydesville, reading is at the centre of our curriculum.
